Throughout the process of creating and iterating my digital artefact throughout the semester I am going to consistently post on my TikTok account and when I am not posting I’m still going to be active on my account observing how my audience is reacting to my account. I plan to post 3 TikTok’s a week but this varies on the crypto market. If there is a massive spike in the market and there is driven hype I will post more frequently as the goal of my page is to keep my viewers up to date with what’s happening in the market.
To properly observe my niche I am going to take notes and screenshot and useful information I came across to understand the audience I am targeting. This would include comments on my videos, duets, comments from similar accounts, views and likes on my videos and also overall engagement and activity. I will also be paying attention to analytics such as gender and locations to give me an overall sense of who my audience is that way I can cater my persona to this audience.

As well as observing my audience I am going to be implementing analytical framework techniques to help me document my experience. One of these includes a video analysis in which I am going to analyse different features and elements of cryptocurrency related videos to try and grasp specifically how they engage with their audience through their content. For example many YouTubers use arrows and graphs in their thumbnail to make them more engaging and make the viewer want to watch.
What an interesting niche Dale, Crypto Currency is something that a lot of us find confusing, so I think TikTok is such a great way to educate young people on it. Your pitch video made it very clear that this is something that you are passionate about which will definitely help you develop your research, and this was particularly clear when you talked about your prior involvement in the community on Facebook and Youtube. I would have liked to know more about the persona that you plan to create through your DA, and how you plan to carry out your ethnographic research eg Research and content plan. You mentioned that you have already noticed the main personas of critics, sceptics, and “scammers” and its great that you have already started to observe your audience in this way. What persona do you plan to take on in the community? You touched on lots of different key points in the pitch and the blog, and I can tell you are starting to work out your DA plan. It will be great to see once you investigate your field site further and understand exactly what part in the media niche that you want to research. I think it would be really good to look at your research through a textual analysis since you are focusing on the content itself, the way they use things like arrows and thumbnails to build engagement, and the way content is structured by different TikTok creators and how the audience receives and reacts to it. Have a read of the introduction of this text linked below, particularly where it says, “Textual analysis follows an inductive, interpretive approach by finding patterns in the material that lead to “readings” grounded in the back and forth between observation and contextual analysis.” It gives good insights into how textual analysis works. I think you could use this analysis to interpret the different types of content within Crypto Currency TikTok, and find the patterns and differences in trends etc. Hope this helps.

This is such a brilliant idea, Dale. As someone that knows pretty much nil about cryptocurrency, but wants to learn, this seems really exciting! I find it interesting how you went into detail about the content that already exists, in order to find your place in this niche, there seems to be lots of content that I wasn’t even aware of! I also think it is a great idea that you’ll be analysing the market and then posting depending on what’s happening, it is very strategic knowing when consumers will be the most active. My only suggestion for future blog posts is to add some tags and a title related to your digital artifact to draw more of an audience, this could even lead to growth on your Tik Tok account! The link below is to an article that provides tips on getting a “viral” Tik Tok video. However, I think it will be useful in growing your page and drawing more attention to your content. https://www.voyageandventure.com/how-to-go-viral-on-tiktok/ I am very excited about this concept and can’t wait to learn more through your Tik Toks and blogs.

Hello Dale, the thing that stood out to me the most was the various amount of media content that you included throughout your pitch video. It really gave a sense of the rapidly increasing interest in crypto currency. However, the first thing I noticed is that the pitch video was embedded after the text, rather than being at the top.
Another aspect that stood out to me was the optimisation of the apps that you’ll be using. For instance, you mentioned that you wanted to be in tune with your audience, as well as where overall crypto currency is taking place. Which is why the screenshots that you included, looks to be quite useful for the future. The images that you included within the video and text, to me, was your strongest part.
Now regarding structure, I found this part to be weaker in comparison to the rest. Firstly, you did not include a field site, which doesn’t show me the extensive potential research or other cryptocurrency elements you planned to delve into, excluding the one’s you mentioned. You also didn’t include a weekly research schedule or how you planned to make your DA ethical. Furthermore, there weren’t any hyperlinks pertaining to the lecture materials or further readings, which makes the autoethnographic study that you mentioned seem somewhat lacking in supporting information. There also wasn’t and categories or tags relating to your DA.
Regarding a well-known cryptocurrency, bitcoin. I found this article to be quite informative, as they also use an autoethnographic research approach in studying the history of bitcoin, as well as the future of online exchange.
